Stress
Family caregivers of people with dementia are exposed for many years to physical and emotional demands, considered as chronic stressors, which can generate distress and risk factors for non-adaptive behaviors.
Family caregivers of elderly people with dementia tend to have higher levels of depression, stress, anxiety, irritation, poor perception of their health, more work problems, higher consumption of psychiatric drugs and less leisure time than those who care for elderly people without dementia.
